Cowes Students Inspire Creativity at Isle of Wight Literary Festival

Cowes Enterprise College was proud to take part in this year’s Isle of Wight Literary Festival – a celebration of books, creativity and community that brought together authors, readers and young people from across the island.

Over the four-day festival, Cowes Sixth Form student volunteers played a key role in supporting the events hosted at the academy. Their involvement provided an invaluable opportunity to engage with leading writers, broadcasters and creatives including Prue Leith, Giles Brandreth, Sue Barker and Lady Anne Glenconner.

As part of the festival programme, students in Years 7 and 8 enjoyed an inspiring session with author Monique Turner from Chicken House Books, who shared her journey as a writer and offered advice on storytelling and creativity. Meanwhile, Year 10 and Sixth Form students attended a motivational talk by Dr Stuart Lawrence, educator, author and speaker, who explored themes of resilience, positivity and the power of making a difference.

The festival continues to be a highlight of the Cowes Enterprise College calendar, offering students memorable opportunities to connect with the wider community and develop their love of literature.

Rachel Kitley, Principal of Cowes Enterprise College, said:

“We were delighted to once again be part of the Isle of Wight Literary Festival. It’s a fantastic event that broadens horizons and encourages our students to think creatively about their futures. Our student volunteers and participants represented the academy brilliantly and they should all be very proud of the role they played in such an inspiring weekend.”
